OUR WORK
Socio-technical System

To keep the trains running on time, Sydney Trains deploy teams to their busiest platforms to ensure people board and alight the train as quickly as possible. This project focussed on the design and development of a technology that utilised real-time data to enable platform staff to manage passenger congestion during peak-hour. This is an essential tool in the complex socio-technical system that keeps our transportation system running smoothly.

This project was a collaboration between the University of Technology, Sydney (Rapido), Downer, and Sydney Trains. Hamish (contracting to UTS), was the lead UX and UI Designer for the operational component of the system. Watch the 7 News coverage of the project

One of the leading causes of wildlife injury in the oceans around Australia is ocean plastics. The Melbourne Zoo promotes a strong yet simple message to their 1000’s of daily visitors; at your next outdoor party blow bubbles, not balloons. This outdoor summer activation used machine-learning driven computer vision and web-technologies to engage users with this message. Visitors from the age of 3 upwards are rewarded with sprays of real bubbles when they successfully bin all the balloons on the screen.

The Road to Zero gallery had an ambitious mission and a difficult target group; helping teenagers to understand and support road safety as part of the efforts to reduce our national road death toll to 0. A joint effort between the TAC and Melbourne Museum, this interactive gallery takes students through an interactive connected experience focusing on the three pillars of road safety: safer roads, safer cars and safer people.

In partnership with Kiss the Frog (NL) and E2, Madeleine consulted with the client during the early phases of this project to determine the overall conceptual direction. Technical implementation was carried out by Grumpy Sailor. Photos provided by Benjamin Healley. Watch the full video of the project

What if virtual reality was not just what you see, but what you hear and feel? What if every corner you turn could feel real? Using cutting-edge creative technology, visitors to the Ford experience drive around a real-world race track while simultaneously experiencing a futuristic environment in virtual reality.

S1T2 partnered with Liam and Rob to design and implement a large scale computer-vision system (OptiTrack motion capture). Liam and Rob were responsible for the development and implementation of the design specified by S1T2 and worked in conjunction with S1T2, Optitrack, Ford, and Braden Koh (software engineering). How do you make memorable experiences in retail environments? The VIVO concept store in Shenzhen China is a multi-activation retail experience that engages users through creative interactions. Using a 360-degree geodesic dome, users enter into a planetarium display controlled by a realtime video interface allowing them to move through landscapes and immersive lighting environments.

S1T2 partnered with Liam to design and implement a lighting array that mapped equirectangular video to a 3D lighting fixture mounted in a geodesic dome. Liam was responsible for the development and implementation of the design specified by S1T2 and worked in conjunction with IMAGINATION, VIVO, and Harison McEwen (User Interface Design).
